The 2025 edition of the 2A State Basketball Tournament starts Thursday with “Great 8” games at Blue Arena in Loveland. One double digit seed is in the tournament on the boys and girls side in #13 Akron (Girls) and #11 Sedgwick County (Boys).
4 teams return on the girls side from last year, meanwhile two teams return after a long hiatus from the tournament #8 Sargent (2012) and #13 Akron (2015). The defending state champion and the runner up from 2024 return in #1 Merino (Champion) and #5 Burlington (Runner-Up).
4 teams return for the boys, including #3 Bishop Machebeuf who made the 3A field last year. #4 Byers returns to “The Dance” after a 6 year break (2019). We will crown a new champion for the boys but the runner up #8 Sanford is back, because you know….”Sanford doing Sanford things”.
