Isabella Monk collected three hits in four at bats, as Widefield defeated Rocky Ford 8-5 on Tuesday. Monk singled in the second inning, singled in the first inning, and singled in the sixth inning.
Widefield got on the board in the first inning after Monk singled, scoring one run.
In the top of the second inning, Rocky Ford went back into the lead after Brilye Lovato grounded out, and Rocky Ford scored on a passed ball, each scoring one run.
Widefield took the lead in the bottom of the second. Monk singled, scoring three runs, to give Widefield the leg up, 4-2.
Rocky Ford tied the game up in the top of the third thanks to two walks. Rocky Ford tied the game at four on a walk by Lovato.
A play gave Rocky Ford the lead, 5-4, in the top of the fifth.
Brooke Foster doubled following a 6-pitch at-bat, which helped Widefield tie the game at five in the bottom of the fifth.
Widefield jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning after Foster walked, Mia Hoffpauir singled, and Savanna Mitton singled, each scoring one run.
Olivia McEwen earned the win for Widefield. The hurler allowed two hits and five runs (three earned) over seven innings, striking out six and walking 12. Leticia Garcia took the loss for Rocky Ford. The starting pitcher went six innings, giving up eight runs (seven earned) on 12 hits, striking out six and walking two.
Widefield collected 12 hits in the game. Monk and Mitton each collected three hits for Widefield. Foster and Monk each drove in two runs for Widefield. McEwen and Hoffpauir each collected multiple hits for Widefield.
Lovato led Rocky Ford with two runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup. The infielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Garcia and Lovato each collected one hit for Rocky Ford. Anneysiah Camacho paced Rocky Ford with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying 12 walks for the game. Rocky Ford ran wild on the base paths, accumulating four stolen bases for the game.
