It came down to the wire on Friday, as La Junta grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 8-7, over Coronado. The game was tied at seven in the bottom of the fourth when Natalya Herrera drew a walk, scoring one run.
La Junta rallied for the victory despite trailing 7-2 in the second.
Coronado got on the board in the top of the first inning after two doubles and a single.
Coronado extended their early lead with four runs in the top of the second thanks to RBI singles by Norah Johnson and Nealie Hansen.
La Junta tied the game in the bottom of the third thanks to a double by Herrera, and an error.
Isabelle Aragon earned the win for La Junta Varsity Tigers. The right-handed pitcher allowed 10 hits and seven runs over four innings, striking out five and walking one. The Coronado hurler went three and one-third innings, giving up eight runs (five earned) on five hits, striking out four and walking eight.
Herrera, Marlie Gonzales, Madalyn Tafoya, Ayarra Torrez, and Aragon each collected one hit for La Junta. Herrera and Gonzales each drove in two runs for La Junta. La Junta had patience at the plate, tallying eight walks for the game. Herrera and Aragon led the team with two bases on balls each. Aragon stole four bases. La Junta ran wild on the base paths, collecting six stolen bases for the game.
Coronado Varsity Cougars piled up 10 hits in the game. Johnson and Hansen were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for Coronado Varsity Cougars.
